Honoring the Legacy of Angie Stone:
A True Neo-Soul Icon
The world has lost a radiant light. Angie Stone, a powerhouse of soul, love, and authenticity, tragically passed away last week in a car accident. Her voice was a gift—a rich, velvety instrument that bridged generations and emotions, speaking directly to the soul.
At the GANSPA Awards, we had the privilege of honoring her as NEO-Soul Artist of the Year in 2016. Though she couldn’t attend in person, her heartfelt acceptance, recorded on camera, was a testament to her warmth and humility. That moment remains a cherished memory, a reminder of how deeply she valued her artistry and the fans who uplifted her.
From her early days in The Sequence to her solo triumphs with Black Diamond and Mahogany Soul, Angie redefined contemporary R&B. She poured wisdom, faith, and resilience into every lyric, crafting songs that not only entertained but healed. Her music was a refuge—an embrace for those seeking truth, love, and empowerment.
Angie’s influence stretched far beyond her own recordings. She was a songwriter, a mentor, and a beacon for the neo-soul movement. Her presence was undeniable; her impact, everlasting.
We at DreamSpire TV and GANSPA Awards extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends, and the countless fans who loved her. Though she may be gone, her music, her passion, and her spirit will forever resonate.
Rest in power, Angie. Your soul will always sing.
